2022 Local Election Guide

It's a relatively quiet election season for SMARTMoraga this go-round, as our primary focus on the Town of Moraga has relatively few candidates competing and, as you know, we don't spend a lot of our time on local school or fire department matters. Nevertheless, here's our recap:

Moraga Town Council

Two four-year terms and one two-year term are on the ballot:

  • Steve Woehleke (Mayor) and Kerry Hillis (Planning Commission Chair) are running unopposed for the two, four-year terms.

  • Kendall Langan (website here) and David Shapiro (website here) are running for the single, two-year term.

As a matter of policy, we don't endorse candidates without a voting record to review. We encourage you to visit their websites.

Moraga-Orinda Fire District

Three four-year terms are on the Moraga and Orinda ballots, though each Moraga resident lives in a single geographic "district" with a single board member representing them. Two of the districts are within Moraga. This year again pits union-backed candidates against "independent" candidates (see our more detailed articles here and here).

  • For District 1, it's Greg Hasler (website here) vs Chris Young (website here)

  • For District 3, it's Steve Danziger (website here) vs Vince Dell'Aquila (website here)

As a matter of policy, we don't endorse candidates in MOFD elections. We encourage you to visit their websites along with reading our previous articles.

Moraga School District

Three seats and four candidates for the school board this go-round:

  • Larry Jacobs (website here) is the sole incumbent running

  • Hen King (website here)

  • Kristen Kraetsch (no website located or provided in candidate profile)

  • Martha White (no website located or provided in candidate profile)

As a matter of policy, we don't endorse candidates in school board elections.
