Survey: Fewer than 31% Say Moraga Headed in Right Direction, Town Considers Tax Hike

The Fall 2017 "Community Priorities Survey" to be presented at the November 8 Council Meeting indicates that fewer than 31% of Moraga residents feel the Town is headed in the right direction, a 40% drop since local sentiment was measured just a year ago. Meanwhile, "disapproval" ratings have more than doubled.

The survey was conducted by Godbe Research at a cost of approximately $40,000.

Curiously, neither the survey nor the report identify the root cause of this significant drop in confidence. While the survey and report do attempt to link the Town's fiscal emergency with the sinkhole and Canyon bridge failures, there were no specific questions about the reasons for concluding the Town is headed in the wrong direction. This unfortunate survey design omission thus makes it impossible for anyone to objectively and accurately determine the linkage and root causes.
